NAV CANADA, the country's provider of civil air navigation services, conducted an aeronautical study that reviewed the aviation weather observation requirements at the Wiarton, ON airport.
The study recommended replacing the Contract Weather Office (CWO) with an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) to provide 24-hr weather observations. The AWOS installation will include a Voice Generator Sub-System (VGSS) and weather cameras.
AWOS information will be broadcast via the VGSS on a VHF frequency and weather camera images of the airport and surrounding area will be viewable on the NAV CANADA Aviation Weather Website. The 12-24hr aerodrome forecast (TAF) remains.
This change will take effect 29 October 2026 at 0901 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The appropriate aeronautical publications will be amended.
