2013 TAF Amendment Response Time Results

The following two tables present TAF amendment response time results, summary and detailed. These results are derived using an algorithm which first captures all the observations which are not satisfied by the current TAF and then looks forward in time for a response by an amended TAF, the next regularly scheduled TAF, or a new observation which matches the TAF. If none of these is found during the 2 hours following the observation then it is counted as one where there was no response.

2013 TAF Performance Measurement Results

The following two tables present TAF performance measurement results. The number of hours of below VFR conditions that were observed and forecast are given. The next three columns show the VFR Reliability Index, Alternate Reliability Index, and the Below Alternate False Alarm Ratio, all in percent. The first 6 hours of validity of all TAFs, including both regular issues and amendments, and their corresponding observations are counted so multiple counting of the same hour is possible. The target levels of performance are 95% or better for the VFR and Alternate Reliability Indices and 50% or less for the Alternate False Alarm Ration. If there are too few events during the month to provide a reliable result then the entry is shown as NSS (not statistically significant).

Alternate Reliability Index
The Alternate Reliability Index is a measure of how reliable the TAF is when the forecaster calls for conditions to remain above the aerodrome-specific alternate limits, 95% or higher reliability in the first 6 hours of a forecast is again the goal.

Below Alternate False Alarm Ratio
The Below Alternate False Alarm Ratio provides a measure of how often the forecaster includes conditions below alternate limits, which are not verified by actual conditions. A score of 50% or lower is the MSC target.

VFR Reliability Index
The VFR Reliability Index provides a measure of how reliable the TAF is when the forecaster has predicted VFR conditions. A level of at least 95% reliability during the first 6 hours of the forecast period is the MSC target.
